Si-Jo Leung Ting
Professor Si-Jo Leung Ting is the current President of the International Wing Tsun Association (IWTA) and the only living Grandmaster of the system.
In 1973, he graduated from Hong Kong Baptist College with a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese and English Literature. In 1979, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the United States in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development and worldwide promotion of the Wing Tsun system. Later, in 1997, he received the honorary title of Professor of Martial Arts from the International Sports Academy of Bulgaria.
The Grandmaster’s Legacy
Leung Ting began studying Wing Tsun at the age of 13. At the age of 20, he became a personal student of the legendary Grandmaster Yip Man, who is also renowned as the teacher of Bruce Lee.
Leung Ting dedicated his life to the development and advancement of Wing Tsun Kung Fu. The organization he founded has grown into the world’s largest professional Kung Fu organization, with official branches in 63 countries.
Professor Leung Ting played a pivotal role in introducing Wing Tsun Kung Fu to the world. Today, the system is practiced by tens of thousands of martial artists worldwide, many of whom were already accomplished practitioners before joining Wing Tsun.
Among his students and followers are instructors from elite law enforcement and military units, including the FBI and the United States Marine Corps, Germany’s SEK and GSG 9, Luxembourg’s GIP, France’s RAID, Italy’s NOCS, India’s Anti-Terrorism Squad, and the Belgian Special Police. Many of these practitioners had already achieved high levels of expertise in other martial arts, including national championship titles and World Championship victories, before becoming part of the Wing Tsun community.
Cinema, Art, Literature, and Wing Tsun KungFu
Professor Leung Ting is known in the film world as a technical director for Kung Fu movies. Since 1976, he has provided consulting for the production of more than 24 television series and 6 films focused on Kung Fu. Leung Ting is a respected expert in Chinese martial arts and culture, and he also advises both local and international television companies that produce shows or documentaries about Chinese culture and KungFu.
In 1978, Professor Leung Ting published his first book on the Wing Tsun Kung Fu system. The first edition sold out within four months. Sijo Leung Ting received thousands of letters from readers requesting a reprint of the book. Its tremendous popularity encouraged Professor Leung Ting to devote more time to writing and publishing books on Wing Tsun and other Kung Fu styles. To date, Sijo Leung Ting has produced more than 50 works on Kung Fu (including videos and books). Most of his books are published in Chinese and English, while several have also been translated into German, Italian, Spanish, and Hungarian.
